$4M NCA Scandal: Akuffo-Addo Grants Presidential Pardon to Convicted Former Official
The Office of the President of Ghana has announced a decision to grant convicted former National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, a presidential pardon on the grounds of ill-health.
After serving three of his five-year jail term for his involvement in wilfully causing a $4 million financial loss to the state in the procurement of some surveillance equipment for the National Communications Authority (NCA), he will be released.
In a letter to the Minister of Interior, Hon Ambrose Dery, the Jubilee House said the decision of the President was on grounds of a petition by the Paramount Chief of Kpembi Traditional Area, Kpembewura Haruna Dari Bismark Banbange Ndefoso I for his release on “grounds of ill health and good behaviour”.
“Kindly take necessary steps to give effects to the Presidential Pardon immediately.”
It is reported that Alhaji Salifu Osman Mimina was convicted together with Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie and the former Board Chairman; William Mathew Tetteh-Tevie, the former Director General on a total of 14 different charges.
The court is said to have held that the purchase did not receive the required approval from the NCA board.
