3 Reportedly Rounded For Illegal Possession Of Firearms, Weapons

Three suspects have been arrested in Tema and Dansoman and put before a court for possessing firearms without lawful authority as well as other weapons, according to a police report.

An AK47 assault rifle, 90 rounds of live AK47 ammunition, 4 rounds of 17mm ammunition, a machete, a rubber pistol, one pump action gun, and a pistol were retrieved by police when they pounced on the suspects at their hideouts.

The operation was intelligence-led, the police say.

“The operation at Tema Community 25 led to the arrest of suspect Abdul Razak, aged 46 years, for possessing a firearm without lawful authority. A search conducted on him at his hideout led to the retrieval of an AK47 assault rifle, 90 rounds of live AK47 ammunition, 4 rounds of 17mm ammunition, a machete, and a rubber pistol.

“Suspects Hamza Yakubu and Mubarak Yakubu were also arrested at Dansoman. A search conducted on them led to the retrieval of one pump action gun and a pistol”, a part of the report said.

Meanwhile, the police are calling on the general public to facilitate their operations with any relevant information that will help clamp down on criminals and crimes in the country.
