3 NDC Members Arrested for Firearm Possession
Three members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been arrested for unlawful possession of firearm.
The members of the opposition party were picked up after a pump-action gun with four rounds of ammunition was found in their Honda CRV saloon car on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Ofaakor Electoral Commission (EC) in the Central Region.
“The Ghana Police Service has today Sunday 2nd June 2024 arrested three persons at Ofaakor, near Kasoa in the Central Region for possession of a firearm without lawful authority,” the Service said in a statement.
The suspects include Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, the NDC’s Parliamentary candidate, along with Mustapha Mohammed and Abdul Aziz Musah.
“One pump-action gun with four rounds of ammunition was retrieved from the vehicle,” the statement revealed.
The suspects are currently assisting the police in investigations.
The NDC executives in the constituency have defended their Parliamentary candidate stating the gun is registered and for protection as the candidate has for time been facing threats from some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Their arrest follows a confrontation between the NDC and the NPP members at the EC office leading to the stabbing of two and the arrest of two.
