3-Member Committee Given 2 Weeks to Probe Berekum Stool Dispute

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has established a three-member committee of eminent chiefs to delve into the stool affairs of the Berekum Traditional Area and furnish their report within two weeks.

The case was furthered to the committee a week after the parties invoked the Great Oath in defence of their cases before the Asanteman Council.

The Committee include the Paramount Chief of Sampa Traditional Council, Nana Samgba II, the Paramount Chief of Mim, Okrofrobour Dr Yaw Adjei II and the Paramount Chief of Adankragya, Nana Oppong Freyam.

At an Asanteman Council meeting on August 26, 2024, His Majesty expressed confidence in the Committee made up of professionals including a court judge.

Asantehene Calls for Calm amid Berekum Chieftaincy Dispute

He directed them to analyse the family trees to find the true royals of the Berekum Stool without wasting much time.

“Assess the family trees of both parties- Berekumhemaa and that of Mpatapo people. It’s not a matter of the successive line. Find who occupied the stool when it was first created and her family tree. With this, we can easily identify the true owners of the stool. Don’t take too long on this. Furnish us with the report in two weeks.”

The Asantehene reiterated his quest to see peace prevail in Berekum and promised all aggrieved elders in the Traditional Area an amicable solution.

“I want peace to reign in Berekum. After the dispute about the royalty is settled, we will look at all other outstanding issues and settle them.”
