3 Injured In Foiled Bullion Van Robbery Attack

The police have counted three injured victims in the foiled bullion van robbery attack at the Industrial area in Accra that took place on February 22, 2022.

Per the police report, during the attempted robbery on a bullion van at the Industrial Area in Accra, a police officer who was on duty nearby forcefully intervened to stop the robbery.

While the robbers were fleeing the scene, they fired indiscriminately into the crowd, leaving three people with various degrees of injuries, it is reported.

The victims were admitted to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The police report says, the Inspector-General of Police spoke to the medical team at the hospital and the victims and assured them of the needed support.

According to the police, the bullion vehicle was armoured and contributed to the safety of the officials and the police officer on board the vehicle despite the various bullets fired at it.

“It has therefore become necessary to re-echo the Police Administration’s call for all financial institutions in the country to resort to the use of such fit for purpose vehicles for their cash in transit activities”, a statement from the police reiterated.

Months ago, the country recorded a series of robbery attacks on bullion vans which led to the death of one police officer, Constable Emmanuel Osei, in one of the instances, where he was shot to death at Jamestown in Accra in July 2021.
