26 Arrested in Police Crackdown on Toy Gun Trend

The toy gun trend in the Ashanti Region and parts of the country has faced a stiff police crackdown with over 20 people arrested.

Brandishing and indiscriminate firing of toy guns had been the latest trend with many hopping onto it; however, concerns were raised about the implication it would have if scrupulous persons took advantage of it ahead of the elections and the festive season.

In reaction, the police have launched a special operation to crackdown on the trend.

Currently, 26 people have been arrested with efforts underway to deal with others, the Ghana Police Service announced in a press statement on November 25.

“The suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will be put before court to face justice. Meanwhile, a quantity of toy guns have been retrieved from these suspects as part of Police investigation into the menace.”

It has also cautioned the youth to desist from it.

“We, hereby, caution the youth to desist from this act as it constitutes the offence of conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) amongst others.”
