Registrar of Companies To Delete Unrenewed Business Names From January 2027

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has announced that all business names which are not renewed on or before January 17, 2027, will be deemed lapsed and removed from its Register.

In a press release dated November 4, 2026, the Office reminded the general public and all business owners that all registered business names are required to be renewed annually upon expiry of their registration.

The Registrar said it has observed that a number of business names on the Register have not been renewed as required by law.

“NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that all business names which are not renewed on or before 17th January, 2027 shall be deemed lapsed and shall accordingly be removed from the Register maintained by the Office,” the statement said.

According to the ORC, upon removal, such business names shall cease to exist, and any person continuing to trade under a cancelled business name shall do so in breach of the law and be liable to the applicable sanctions.

The Office, therefore, advised all business owners whose business name renewals are due or have expired to renew their business names at any office of the Registrar of Companies or through the USSD code *222#, pay all outstanding renewal fees and update any changes in particulars such as address or nature of business.

It added that business owners who no longer intend to carry on business under a registered name may notify the Registrar in writing for the name to be removed from the Register.

The ORC said it remains committed to ensuring compliance with Ghana’s corporate regulatory framework and to promoting high standards of corporate governance and business transparency.
