Queen Máxima of the Netherlands to Engage Asante Chiefs

The Queen Consort of the Netherlands, Her Majesty Queen Máxima, is scheduled to engage with Paramount and sub-chiefs in Asanteman as part of her visit to Ghana.

The roundtable meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and will culminate her visit to Kumasi.

The engagement will be used to advocate for policies and services that contribute to the financial resilience and well-being of Ghanaians.

This will follow a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, at the Manhyia Palace.

Other engagements of the Queen Consort outside Kumasi include meetings with President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, on Thursday.

Her five-day itinerary also includes engagements with users of financial services, as well as representatives of government, development organisations and financial institutions, on policies and services that contribute to financial resilience and wellbeing.

Queen Máxima is in Ghana in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA).

The visit will focus on four aspects key to the country’s financial health: embedding the theme in government policy, funding the agriculture sector, developing financial services that help people budget and save, and making long-term investments affordable for households.

As UNSGSA, Queen Máxima advocates for financial products, services and policies that give people control over their daily finances, protect them against unforeseen expenses, help them invest in their quality of life, and ultimately enable them to become financially stable.

Queen Máxima is accompanied by representatives of her Reference Group, including those from the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) and the World Bank.
