Otumfuo, Lady Julia to Host Queen Máxima of the Netherlands Tomorrow

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his wife, Lady Julia, will host Queen Máxima of the Netherlands tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace.
The visit forms part of Queen Máxima’s trip to Ghana in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA).
She arrived in Accra on November 2 and will travel to Kumasi on Wednesday to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene and Lady Julia.
A statement issued by the Government of the Netherlands said, “In the afternoon, Queen Máxima will travel to Kumasi to pay a courtesy visit to the King of the Ashanti Kingdom, Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II and his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu.”
Her engagements in Kumasi will culminate in a roundtable meeting on financial health with some Asante chiefs.
Queen Máxima is also expected to meet with President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama on Thursday.
Other activities on her five-day itinerary include engagements with users of financial services, as well as representatives of government, development organisations and financial institutions, on policies and services that contribute to financial resilience and wellbeing.
The visit will focus on four aspects key to the country’s financial health: embedding the theme in government policy, funding the agriculture sector, developing financial services that help people budget and save, and making long-term investments affordable for households.
As UNSGSA, Queen Máxima advocates for financial products, services and policies that give people control over their daily finances, protect them against unforeseen expenses, help them invest in their quality of life, and ultimately enable them to become financially stable. These are the four pillars of financial health.
Queen Máxima is accompanied by representatives of her Reference Group, including those from the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) and the World Bank.
