Chinese Naval Hospital Ship Docks At Tema

A Chinese Naval hospital ship, AUSPICIOUS ARK (Hull 868), has docked at the Port of Tema for a seven-day friendly visit and humanitarian medical mission to Ghana.
The arrival of the floating hospital over the weekend marks the first time a Chinese naval hospital ship has berthed in Ghana under the mission dubbed ‘Mission Harmony 2026’.
The ship, equipped with modern medical facilities including operating theatres, intensive care units, and a specialised team of military doctors and nurses, will provide free medical, surgical and dental care to thousands of Ghanaians.
It will also conduct cross-training workshops and professional exchanges between Ghanaian and Chinese military medical personnel to share clinical knowledge and experience in healthcare delivery and humanitarian assistance.
The medical outreach will run until October 30, 2026, with free outpatient clinics, specialised surgeries and community wellness visits being undertaken in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Service and the Ministry of Health.
Following the arrival, senior commanders from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, led by Senior Captain Zhou Hanwen, paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Defence.
The delegation was received by the Chief Director, Mr Emmanuel Kartey, on behalf of the Minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, together with some directors of the Ministry.
Mr Kartey commended the Chinese military for bringing tangible humanitarian support directly to Ghana, noting that the mission underscores the deepening bilateral relations and growing maritime cooperation between Accra and Beijing, centred around humanitarian assistance, joint training and regional maritime safety.
He said the visit will expand medical exchanges, strengthen professional relations between medical personnel of both countries and promote the sharing of clinical expertise.
