Canada to Support Ghana’s Women’s Development Bank

Canada will provide technical support for the establishment of Ghana’s Women’s Development Bank, as part of a new package of agreements reached between Ghana and Canada.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced this on November 28, 2026, after holding what he described as “very positive and meaningful discussions” with Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, Honourable Randeep Sarai.
According to the Minister, the meeting yielded five concrete deliverables that reaffirm the buoyant Ghana-Canada relations.
Central to the agreements is Canada’s commitment to support the creation of the Women’s Development Bank, which is expected to provide dedicated financing and empowerment opportunities for Ghanaian women.
Beyond that, the two countries will create a partnership for labour mobility and skills empowerment for the youth, focusing on digital literacy, standardised certification for global jobs, energy transition and TVET.
They will also enhance collaboration at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre to enable the institution to do more in promoting regional stability and counterterrorism.
In addition, Ghana and Canada have agreed to cooperate in modern environmental protection and reclamation as Ghana promotes legal and sustainable mining practices.
The two nations will further coordinate a broader Africa-Canada dialogue next year to align shared development priorities, anchored on trade, industrialisation, railway development, value addition and not aid.
