TOR Restoration Creates Over 8,000 Jobs For Ghanaians – Managing Director

The Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Edmond Kombat, says efforts to restore the refinery to full operations have generated more than 8,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 26, he explained that the refinery’s return to operations had created employment opportunities for young engineers, temporary staff, local contractors and workers in the downstream petroleum sector.

Mr Kombat said TOR currently employs 415 young engineers on a permanent basis, while 301 temporary workers have also been engaged to support its operations.

He added that 67 workers had been recruited for maintenance work on the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC), while 654 people work for 35 local contractors operating at the refinery.

The Managing Director said the restoration project had also created indirect employment for about 6,500 people, including tanker drivers and other workers in the downstream petroleum industry.

He said the employment figures reflected the wider economic benefits of reviving the refinery, particularly for young professionals and people whose livelihoods depend on its operations.

“The recovery has created a number of jobs, and sometimes we wonder where these people would have been if TOR had not come back,

In effect, direct employment for 1,557 young Ghanaian engineers having employed as a result of restoration and reset. We’ve also created jobs of about 6,500 indirectly for tanker drivers and other workers in the downstream.” he said
