One Million Coders Beneficiaries Raise Concerns Over Poor Internet Connectivity, Lack of Equipment

Beneficiaries of the government’s One Million Coders Programme at Asawase have decried inadequate internet connectivity, limited technical support and a lack of equipment for practical training.
They made the concerns known when the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Esq., engaged them at the Asawase Community Information Centre (CIC) in the Asokore Mampong Municipality on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The engagement formed part of the Minister’s two-day monitoring tour of rural telephony sites and Community Information Centres (CICs) in the Ashanti Region to obtain feedback on the programme’s implementation.
The beneficiaries, while expressing appreciation for the initiative, called for hybrid learning options, improved pathways to employment, and opportunities for further training after completing the programme.
Responding to the concerns, Hon. Samuel Nartey George assured them that the Ministry would work with the Project Implementation Unit to address the challenges and strengthen delivery.
He also encouraged centre administrators to collaborate with schools in their communities to give pupils access to the facilities for basic ICT training, and disclosed that the Ministry is working with the Ashanti Regional Minister to establish additional centres in underserved districts.
The Minister emphasized that feedback from beneficiaries is crucial to identifying gaps and ensuring the programme responds to practical needs.
The One Million Coders Programme is a key government initiative aimed at equipping Ghanaians with digital skills to enhance participation in the digital economy and improve opportunities for employment and innovation.
