Ghana Repatriates 120 Nigerians Rescued From Cybercrime Trafficking Ring – Sam George

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed the repatriation of 120 Nigerian nationals who were rescued during a major anti-cybercrime operation code-named Operation Cyberhunt.

In a statement, the Minister expressed gratitude to the Ghana Air Force and the Ministry of Defence for facilitating the repatriation.

According to him, the sting operation was led by the Cyber Security Authority in conjunction with other intelligence and security agencies locally and in the UK, Nigeria and the US.

He said the operation uncovered that the 120 persons had been trafficked into Ghana and forced to work in cybercrime setups.

During the operation, security agencies seized 136 mobile phones, 130 laptops, internet connection devices, four motor vehicles, one of which was reported stolen from Canada, and other digital equipment.

The team also recovered high-value items including jewellery and ten Nigerian passports.

Mr George said eight other persons are being processed for prosecution, stressing that Ghana under President John Dramani Mahama will remain an unfavourable destination for cyber criminals.
