The Bono Regional Operations Unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested eight suspects for their alleged involvement in fraudulent acts and the assault of one Godstime Umukoro, 21, at Kotokrom, a suburb in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region.
According to a press release from the Ghana Police Service in Sunyani dated October 9, 2026, the patrol team received a distress call at about 4:30 p.m. on October 4, 2026, that a group of people were attacking a person at Kotokrom.
The team proceeded to the scene and found the victim with multiple marks of assault on his body.
The suspects, who were arrested at the scene, have been identified as Peter Mbam, 24, Godwin Moses, 26, Humble Oweifah, 18, Osas Ogbemudia, 30, Samuel Aisosa, 22, Ashile Godness, 24, Alexander Uyuo, 30, and Patrick Romans, 25.
During interrogation, the suspects stated that they subjected the victim to a severe beating as part of his initiation into the Internet fraud business, a process they claimed they had also undergone.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they were brought to Ghana by one Nwachukwu King Augustine, who is their chairman.
Police investigations indicate that the group lures innocent victims using downloaded images of foreign military men and engages them under the pretext that they are at the war front in Yemen. When they succeed in collecting money from their victims, it is paid into their boss’s account.
The suspects are currently in custody, assisting investigations.
