Ato Forson Leads Ghana to IMF-World Bank High-Level Meetings in Bangkok

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group in Bangkok, Thailand.
It comes as the government prepares to turn economic stabilisation into sustained transformation.
The meetings, scheduled for October 12 to 18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, come ahead of the 2027 Budget in which Dr Forson is expected to unveil the New Economy, the government’s blueprint for Ghana’s next phase of economic development.
In Bangkok, the Finance Minister is expected to engage world leaders, senior representatives of international financial institutions and fellow finance ministers in a series of bilateral and multilateral discussions.
His programme includes talks with IMF leadership, senior World Bank officials and other multilateral institutions, alongside engagements with development and financial partners.
This year’s gathering is the first to be held outside Washington, D.C. since Dr Forson assumed office as Finance Minister in 2025.
Ghana heads into the discussions amid positive assessments from the Bretton Woods institutions for its progress in restoring economic stability following the 2022 crisis.
According to government figures, the overall deficit narrowed to 1.0 per cent of GDP in 2025, and public debt fell sharply, a turnaround World Bank officials have praised.
The delegation, which includes Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, is also seeking investment and financing deals to advance the New Economy agenda on the sidelines of the meetings. For Ghana, the forum offers an opportunity to mobilise investment around value addition, industrialisation and job creation.
