Ghana High Commission Warns Ghanaians in Johannesburg and Durban to Avoid CBDs Over Planned Protests

The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has warned Ghanaian nationals in South Africa to stay away from the Central Business Districts of Johannesburg and Durban as protest activities escalate.
In an advisory issued on October 10, 2026, the High Commission said multiple protests have been reported in both CBDs, with demonstrators in Johannesburg expected to converge on the Constitutional Court – a move that could trigger road closures, traffic disruptions and possible clashes with police.
The High Commission is specifically urging Ghanaians to avoid all protest locations and large gatherings, limit non-essential travel to the affected CBDs until calm is restored, and anticipate major traffic disruptions.
Ghanaians have also been advised to monitor updates from the South African Police Service (SAPS), avoid any confrontation with protesters, stay in touch with family and community leaders when moving through volatile areas, and report any threat or intimidation to the nearest police station and to the High Commission for consular support.
The Mission further cautioned against circulating unverified information that could cause panic, and urged strict compliance with directives from South African security agencies.
