Ghana Airports Company to Conduct Full-Scale Emergency Simulation Exercise at AIA

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced it will conduct a Full-Scale Emergency Simulation Exercise at the Accra International Airport.

The exercise is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026.

It will take place from 9:00 am to 12 noon and is in line with the Ghana Civil Aviation Directives (GCAD) and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices, which mandate Ghana to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise at least once every two years.

According to a public notice issued by Management on October 7, 2026, the objective of the exercise is to test the adequacy of Accra International Airport Contingency and Aerodrome Emergency Plans and to evaluate Ghana’s preparedness in handling emergencies at the airport.

In conformity with the requirement, an Exercise Planning Team (EPT) made up of representatives from the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Ghana Army, and Ghana Police Service has been mandated to write and conduct the exercise on behalf of the Ghana Airports Company Limited.

The exercise, dubbed “FALCON EYE, 2026”, will take the form of an act of unlawful interference directed against airport operations and its facilities and the subsequent response by the various agencies, including members of the Emergency Operation Centre.

GACL assured the general public that there will be minimal interruption to airport operations during the period of the exercise.

Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited and all stakeholders are soliciting the cooperation of the general public to make the exercise a success.
