NHIA Increases Service Tariffs By 50% to Cushion Providers, Sustain Quality Healthcare

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has increased service tariffs by 50 per cent in August as part of efforts to support healthcare providers and sustain quality service delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, explained that the adjustment was intended to cushion service providers and strengthen the Authority’s efforts to eliminate financial obstacles to healthcare access for all NHIS members.

The tariff increment comes as the Authority continues to prioritise the prompt settlement of claims to credentialed facilities across the country. In September alone, the NHIA disbursed GH¢382.85 million in claims, bringing its total claims payment for the year to GH¢2.115 billion.

According to the NHIA, timely claims settlement remains a key pillar of its operational reforms and a critical step toward improving healthcare delivery and ensuring universal access to essential health services across the country.

The Authority maintains that ensuring prompt reimbursement will discourage co-payments at the point of care and sustain the confidence of both healthcare providers and NHIS members.
