Ghana to Integrate Fire Safety Into Basic School Curriculum

Ghana is taking steps to integrate fire safety education into the basic school curriculum to equip children with life-saving knowledge from an early age.

The initiative is being led by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) under Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and Ulster University.

The programme, which was initially developed by the GNFS and Ulster University, has been refined through collaborative engagements with education and fire safety experts.

It was presented to the Chief Fire Officer for consideration today.

When implemented, the curriculum will provide pupils with practical knowledge on fire prevention, safe behaviours and emergency response, as part of efforts to build a culture of safety and reduce fire incidents across the country.
