Teachers’ Responsibility Must Be Matched With Practical Support – Veep

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang says the enormous responsibility placed on teachers must be matched with practical support from the government.
She said this while participating in the Ghana Teacher Prize 2026, held to recognise some of the country’s most outstanding teachers.
In a Facebook post after the event, the Vice President noted that a teacher’s influence on a child can last a lifetime, stressing that teaching carries enormous responsibility for care, integrity and sound professional conduct.
The Ghana Teacher Prize 2026 was organised by the Ministry of Education through the National Teaching Council to celebrate dedication and professional excellence in the teaching profession.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the government was investing in school infrastructure and educational resources, while the Teacher Dabrɛ Initiative sought to improve accommodation, particularly for teachers serving in underserved communities.
She added that the government was working to ease the pressures of double-track schooling and to resolve administrative challenges affecting teacher placement, promotions and remuneration.
“The world our children are growing into is changing rapidly, and our classrooms must evolve with it. Teachers must therefore have access to continuous professional development, appropriate technology and the tools required to prepare learners for the realities of the future,” she stated.
The Vice President acknowledged concerns raised by teachers, noting that the matters are being discussed between government and the unions.
“Building the education system we want requires us all to continue working together in the interest of our children,” she said.
