US Pledges More Support For Ghana’s Anti-Drug Fight As INL Director Visits NACOC

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to support Ghana’s fight against drug trafficking and organised crime through enhanced training and logistical assistance to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

The assurance came when the Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the US Department of State for Africa and the Middle East, Mr Andrew McDonald, led a delegation on a working visit to NACOC management in Accra on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in intelligence sharing, capacity building, training and logistical support to boost NACOC’s operational efforts.

The Director-General of NACOC, Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, expressed appreciation to the INL and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their continued support and called for increased training opportunities for NACOC officers, particularly in intelligence, investigations and prosecution.

He said such support is critical to building NACOC into a leading drug law enforcement agency in Africa.

Mr McDonald, on behalf of his team, expressed confidence in NACOC’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and organised crime, reaffirming the US government’s resolve to support the Commission.

The engagement underscored the need for sustained international cooperation, intelligence-led enforcement and institutional capacity building in addressing the evolving threat of illicit drugs.
