GSA Suspends Pre-Shipment Verification For Imported Used Vehicles

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has suspended the effective date for the pre-shipment verification of vehicles.
In a public notice issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, the Authority announced that the Pre-shipment Inspection exercise for imported used vehicles, which was expected to take effect on October 1, has been put on hold.
“The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) wishes to inform vehicle importers and all stakeholders that the Pre-shipment Inspection exercise for imported used vehicles has been suspended. A new date for its implementation will be communicated in due course.”
The pre-shipment verification policy was introduced as part of measures to ensure that all used vehicles imported into the country meet Ghana’s safety, environmental and quality standards before shipment. The exercise was expected to require importers to have their vehicles inspected and verified at the country of origin by GSA-approved agencies.
The announcement had generated mixed reactions among vehicle importers, dealers and clearing agents, with some calling for broader stakeholder consultation and clarification on inspection fees and procedures.
The Authority says it will communicate a new effective date after further engagements.
The existing import procedures are therefore expected to continue until a new directive is issued.
