France Eyes Support for Women Entrepreneurs and Farmers in Ghana

France has expressed interest in supporting women entrepreneurs and women in agriculture in Ghana as part of efforts to deepen cooperation on gender equality.
The Ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E. Diarra Dime-Labille, disclosed this when she led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
She said gender equality remains a key pillar of French foreign policy and that France sees significant potential in Ghana in areas such as women’s entrepreneurship and agriculture, particularly for driving innovation, food security and economic opportunities for women.
She referenced ongoing initiatives supporting women entrepreneurs and said France is keen to ensure such programmes incorporate strong gender considerations for sustainable development.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, welcomed the interest and said women have long played critical roles in agriculture, often informally, and must not be left behind as the sector becomes more formalised and technology-driven.
She said the Ministry would work with the French Embassy to ensure investments in women-led initiatives achieve lasting impact and are aligned with Ghana’s National Gender Policy.
Both sides agreed to explore practical collaboration, including around the proposed 2027 Women Economic Empowerment Programme.
