Walewale MP Withdraws “Rude” Remark Against Parliament’s August Recall
The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama, has withdrawn a remark in which he described the recall of Parliament in August 2026 as “rude” and has accordingly apologised to the Speaker and the House.
The withdrawal followed a directive from the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
It was the view of the Speaker that while Members were entitled to criticise parliamentary proceedings, such criticism must not be expressed in a manner that undermines the dignity of Parliament or the authority of the Speaker.
The Speaker therefore called on the Walewale MP to withdraw the comment and render an apology.
He reminded Members of their obligation to uphold the dignity and decorum of the House when speaking on proceedings and decisions.
Dr Mahama subsequently withdrew the remark and apologised to the Speaker and the House.
