NAS CEO Inspects Progress of ‘Operation Restore Fleet’ in Ashanti Region
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, has inspected ongoing vehicle recovery efforts at the Ashanti Regional Workshop as part of the Service’s flagship “Operation Restore Fleet” initiative.
The initiative seeks to return grounded ambulances to active service, reduce vehicle downtime, and strengthen fleet management across the country.
During the visit, the CEO commended the workshop team for their dedication and the practical measures being implemented to accelerate repairs and improve operational efficiency.
As part of the intervention, NAS has partnered with automobile engineering students from Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who are currently undertaking industrial attachment at the workshop.
The Service is also exploring opportunities to engage some of the students for national service to bolster its technical workforce and further improve turnaround times for vehicle repairs.
To enhance accountability and operational coordination, additional personnel have been assigned from the Ministry of Health to support documentation at the workshop and stores.
This is expected to strengthen record-keeping, improve inventory management, and ensure that repairs, spare parts usage, and maintenance activities are accurately tracked and documented.
The Service has also intensified security measures around ambulances stationed at the workshop. Plans are underway to install CCTV cameras to improve monitoring and safeguard Service assets.
In addition, office furniture, including chairs and tables, is being provided to support newly posted staff undertaking administrative and documentation duties.
Dr Owusu noted that these interventions form part of NAS’ broader strategy to improve fleet management, restore more ambulances to operational status, and enhance the Service’s capacity to deliver timely prehospital emergency care to communities across Ghana.
