Lead Conversation On Women’s Solidarity Beyond Party Lines – POWA Urges Lordina Mahama, Samira Bawumia

The Progressive Organisation for Women’s Advancement (POWA) has called on First Lady Lordina Mahama and former Second Lady Samira Bawumia to lead a broader conversation on women’s political solidarity beyond party lines.

The call was contained in a statement signed by POWA Founder and President, Dr Victoria Lakshmi Hamah, condemning the rise in personal attacks, insults and gendered mockery directed at the two prominent political women.

According to POWA, the attacks reflect a troubling pattern where prominent women in public life are subjected to personal humiliation.

The organisation said that while Lordina Mahama and Samira Bawumia need not agree politically, they can use their highly visible platforms to advance a collective women’s agenda.

“POWA further calls on First Lady Lordina Mahama and former Second Lady Samira Bawumia, two of Ghana’s most prominent political women, to consider leading a broader conversation on women’s political solidarity beyond party lines,” the statement said.

It added that “Ghana needs more women at the table. It needs women who can disagree without destroying one another. It needs women who can compete politically while still cooperating on issues that affect the lives of millions of women and girls.”
