Patients’ Experience System, Not Policy Doc- Medical Trust Fund Administrator to Health Leaders
The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has challenged health leaders to turn policies and strategies into real, measurable improvements in patient care.
Speaking at a conference of Senior Nursing and Midwifery Managers, she stated, “The patient does not experience our policy documents. The patient experiences the system.”
She urged nursing and midwifery leaders to lead with competence, compassion, mentorship and courage, warning that poor communication, delays and broken equipment must never become “normal.”
She also called for stronger nursing and midwifery representation in health policy design, stressing that frontline experience belongs at the decision-making table.
“Small leadership decisions, repeated consistently, become institutional culture, and institutional culture eventually becomes the health system,” she added.
“Make strategy personal. Make leadership human. Make professionalism visible. And make sure the patient feels the difference,” she urged.
