Ghana Is Open For Business – Mahama Declares At Nasdaq

President John Dramani Mahama has declared Ghana open for business in a high-profile showcase of the country’s renewed investment ambitions in New York.

The President made the declaration on Tuesday, September 23, 2026, after ringing the closing bell at the Nasdaq Stock Market in Times Square.

The ceremony, which was broadcast live, saw President Mahama featured on the iconic Nasdaq billboard carrying the bold message: “Ghana Is Open for Business”.

According to Nasdaq, the ceremony symbolised the significance of the economic ties between Ghana and the United States and Ghana’s openness to business.

President Mahama was accompanied by officials and representatives from Ghana’s economic and investment sectors and received applause from Nasdaq officials after ringing the bell.

“NASDAQ, we thank you very much. It was carried live, and people were watching from Ghana, and everybody’s sending me texts; we saw you on NASDAQ ringing the bell,” President Mahama said.

The symbolic moment set the tone for the U.S.–Ghana Presidential Roundtable, organised by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), where Ghana positioned itself before global investors as a destination for opportunity, partnership and growth.

Addressing investors at the roundtable, President Mahama said Ghana has continued the difficult work of restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening public finances and rebuilding confidence in the economy.

He disclosed that foreign direct investment recorded in 2025 reached approximately $2.6 billion, about four times the level recorded in 2024.

“When we identify an obstacle to investment, we must remove it, and when we commit, you should expect us to return and account for what we’ve done. Investor interest in Ghana is also improving,” he stated.

The Nasdaq appearance formed part of President Mahama’s engagements on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he has been meeting world leaders, international institutions and private-sector executives to strengthen partnerships and encourage investment in Ghana.
