NaCCA Denies Confucius Institute and UCC Partnership to Train Teachers in Chinese Language

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has denied media reports that it has partnered with the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to train teachers for the implementation of a Chinese Language Curriculum.
In a press statement dated September 16, 2026, NaCCA said it has taken note of media publications and public commentary suggesting the partnership, but described the reports as inaccurate.
“NaCCA wishes to state categorically that this characterisation is inaccurate and does not represent any official action or institutional position of the Council,” the statement said.
According to the Council, it did not organise, commission, sponsor or authorise any programme at the Confucius Institute, UCC, as an institutional teacher-training programme.
It added that it neither constituted nor mandated a delegation to participate in the programme on its behalf.
NaCCA clarified that the officers of the Council who attended the programme did so in their individual capacities as participants or resource persons and not as representatives of the Council acting under institutional authorisation.
“Their participation must therefore not be construed as evidence of an official NaCCA programme, partnership, endorsement or policy decision,” the statement added.
