OSP Invites Asokwa MP Over Alleged GH¢70,000 Appointments Committee Cash

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has commenced a preliminary investigation into the affairs of the Appointments Committee of Parliament following a document circulating in the media alleging the sharing of money with members in relation to vetting.

In a Public Notice dated September 4, 2026, the OSP said it has taken note of a purported memorandum attributed to Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, Member of Parliament for Asokwa and Deputy Minority Leader, addressed to Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip.

The document alleges that Hon. Appiagyei returned an amount of GH¢70,000 allocated to her as an advance of money from the Majority Chief Whip in relation to the vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament of two nominees for ministerial positions and three nominees to the Supreme Court.

According to the OSP, given the constitutional importance of the Appointments Committee and the need to safeguard the integrity of the vetting process, and taking into account that the document purportedly casts doubt on the source of the alleged funds, it has commenced an investigation.

The Special Prosecutor said the purported transaction has the hallmarks of extortion of nominees; hence the decision to investigate the veracity of the document, the source of the alleged funds, and the purpose of the alleged funds.

“To this effect, the OSP has dispatched a communication inviting Hon. Patricia Appiagyei to attend the OSP and assist it with the preliminary investigation,” the notice stated.
