Education Ministry Explains How CSSPS Works

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana TVET Service, has released notices educating candidates and parents on how the Computerised School Selection and Placement System works ahead of the 2026 placement.

According to the Ministry, the CSSPS operates through a simple, transparent and merit-based process in three stages.

The first is automatic placement, where candidates who meet all the criteria are automatically placed into one of their chosen schools based on merit.

The second is self-placement, where candidates who were not automatically placed are given the opportunity to log on to the portal to select from available schools with vacancies.

The third is manual or special placement, which handles special cases to ensure every eligible candidate secures a placement.

The Ministry has also clarified what determines automatic placement.

It explained that automatic placement depends on four factors, namely the candidate’s aggregate, the programme of choice, the boarding or day preference, and the availability of vacancies in the chosen schools.

The Ministry emphasised that while a candidate’s aggregate is important, it is not the only factor that determines placement.

It noted that a candidate with a good aggregate could still miss automatic placement if the chosen programme is highly competitive, if the boarding option is full, or if the school has no vacancies for the selected choices.
