Fisheries Ministry Partners with AquaMet Technologies to Advance Digital Aquaculture

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has partnered with AquaMet Technologies, a Ghanaian aquaculture technology company, to explore the use of digital solutions to improve fish farming, reduce production losses and boost productivity.

The partnership was established following a presentation by AquaMet Technologies to the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The meeting was facilitated by the Chamber of Aquaculture, of which AquaMet is a member, and was attended by the Chamber’s Chief Executive Officer, Jacob Adzikah.

Presenting the company’s solutions, Co-Founder of AquaMet Technologies, Frank Owusu, said the company develops digital technologies to help fish farmers make better production decisions and reduce losses.

He introduced AquaMet’s locally manufactured smart water-quality monitoring device, which enables farmers to remotely monitor their ponds or tanks and receive real-time alerts on their mobile phones.

The company also operates a farm-management platform that helps farmers track feeding, inventories, production activities and costs.

Hon. Emelia Arthur expressed enthusiasm about the partnership and the opportunity to work with young Ghanaian innovators developing solutions for the aquaculture sector.

She noted that effective monitoring of critical water-quality parameters is essential to fish production and welcomed the added benefit of a system that not only detects abnormalities but also provides guidance to farmers on the appropriate response.

The Minister, however, emphasised the need for technologies introduced to farmers to be simple, practical and accessible, particularly for farmers with varying levels of digital literacy.

The engagement forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen collaboration with local innovators and improve technology to support the growth and sustainability of Ghana’s aquaculture sector.
