President Mahama Dissolves NSA’s 15-Member Governing Board

The National Sports Authority (NSA) Governing Board has been dissolved with immediate effect by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

The office of the President’s directive forms part of a decision to dissolve the boards of several state institutions, including Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), VALCO, Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited, Ghana Post Company Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

The National Sports Authority’s 15-member Board had been chaired by Dr. Fred Awaah, with Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and Lawyer Sarfo Duku as members.

The President has directed the relevant management teams to continue supervising the day-to-day operations of the institutions while their boards are being reconstituted and has instructed the affected institutions to take all necessary actions in compliance with applicable laws and governing instruments.

However, during the interim period, management has been instructed not to make major policy, financial, or contractual decisions that require board approval without prior authorisation from the appropriate authority.

The development comes at a critical time for Ghanaian football, as the Black Stars prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign, together with a damning comment by Asante Kotoko’s Eric Tinkler.

Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Essipong Sports Stadium, and Cape Coast Sports Stadium are among the major sporting facilities in Ghana that have recently been the focus of public debate regarding their future and state.

The 15-member Board of the National Sports Authority was composed of:

4. Mr. Samuel Sarfo Duku – Ministry of Sports and Recreation
5. Nana Adwoa Owusu-Amoh – Ministry of Finance
6. Mr. Is-Haku Al-Hassan – Ministry of Education
7. Col. Richard Kofi Akoto – Security Services Sports Association
8. Dr. Luguterah Austin Wontepaga – Tertiary Institutions
9. Mr. Samson Deen – National Paralympic Committee
10. Mr. Richard Kofi Akpokavie – Ghana Olympic Committee
11. Hajia Sulemana Zenabu – Distinguished Sporting Personalities
12. Alhaji Iddris Muntawakilu Ahmed – Distinguished Sporting Personalities
13. Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong – Persons in Sports Development
14. Ms. Theresa Osahene – Persons in Sports Development
15. Hamilton Kweku Nixon – Additional Member
