Family Tree Model Proves Effective for Amicable Chieftaincy Dispute Resolution — Otumfuo

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has asserted that tracing ancestral lineage through a structured family tree model remains the most effective method for resolving chieftaincy disputes amicably within Asanteman.

Addressing Asantes and guests at the Akwasidae Festival celebration in the United States of America on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom explained that this approach has been central to his customary judicial process since ascending the Golden Stool in 1999, when he inherited a significant backlog of cases involving the Great Oath (Ntamkese).

Wading into the complexities of chieftaincy litigation, he detailed how the model requires tracing a royal family’s lineage directly from the foundational occupant of a stool down to the present generation.

“All chieftaincy issues are resolved amicably,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated.

“Sometimes the claimants are not entirely to blame. Because a grandfather once occupied the stool, a claimant invokes the Great Oath in bold assurance. To resolve such matters permanently, I instituted a model that traces the exact lineage and foundational root of the stool.”
