Ministry of Education, Teacher Unions Reach Agreement On Promotions

The Ministry of Education has reached an agreement with the leadership of the Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions following an emergency meeting held on Sunday, August 31, 2026.
The meeting was held between the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the leadership of the Teacher Unions to find solutions to issues relating to the recent promotion of teachers.
According to a statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, and issued after the meeting, both parties agreed on three key resolutions.
First, that the effective date for the substantive appointment of all promoted teachers shall be January 2026.
Second, that all promoted teachers shall be placed on their respective salary scales by September 2026.
The statement added that in the event that some teachers are not placed by the end of September 2026, a supplementary payroll will be raised to ensure that all affected teachers are duly placed on scale.
Third, that placement on scale shall be done automatically and consequently, promoted teachers are not required to provide payslips, fill any forms or write application letters.
“On behalf of the government, we express our profound gratitude to our teachers. We appreciate their sacrifices and hard work. We will do the needful as mutually agreed,” the statement said.
