Mahama Unveils “Accra Reset” Blueprint For Fairer Global Economic Order

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled the “Accra Reset” as a strategic blueprint for building a fairer global economic order.

According to the President, the Reset is anchored on four pillars: resource sovereignty, local industrialisation, fair trade and stronger South-South cooperation.

Speaking at the 65th Anniversary High-Level Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade, Serbia, President Mahama said the current global economic architecture continues to disadvantage developing nations, and it is time for NAM to push for a new order that is just and equitable.

He linked the economic reset to climate justice, calling for greater climate finance, adaptation support and renewable energy investment for developing countries that bear the brunt of climate change despite contributing least to it.

President Mahama announced that Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Chairmanship of the African Union and its leadership of the African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change will provide a strategic platform to advance Africa’s interests on the global stage, particularly in climate negotiations.

On technology, the President urged NAM countries to urgently bridge the digital divide, warning that the Global South risks being left behind in the Artificial Intelligence revolution.

He called on member states to ensure they become active participants in AI development and governance, rather than mere consumers of technology developed elsewhere.

The Belgrade meeting marks 65 years since the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement, which continues to champion strategic autonomy and multilateralism for developing nations.
