KMA Places Temporary Ban On New Billboards

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has placed a temporary ban on the erection of billboards within its jurisdiction and ordered all existing billboard operators to regularise their operations.

In a press release dated September 1, 2026, the management of KMA said the ban takes effect immediately until further notice.

“The Management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) wishes to inform the public, particularly outdoor advertising operators, owners, managers, and persons who rent out billboard spaces, that a temporary ban has been placed on billboard erections within the jurisdiction of the Assembly until further notice,” the statement said.

As part of measures to ensure compliance with the Assembly’s regulations, the KMA has directed all billboard operators to report to the Assembly and produce valid permits and proof of payment of the appropriate fees for the 2026 financial year.

Accordingly, all affected operators have been given fourteen (14) days, effective Tuesday, September 1, 2026, to submit the requisite documentation for verification and compliance.

The Assembly warned that any billboard structure whose operator fails to provide valid proof of the required permit and payment within the stipulated period will be removed in accordance with applicable regulations.

“All affected operators are therefore urged to comply within the stipulated period to avoid enforcement action,” the statement added.

For verification and submission of the required documents, operators are directed to visit the Physical Planning Department of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, located at the Adum Ministries area, near the Ghana Immigration Service Regional Command.

The Management of KMA expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all stakeholders as it works to ensure a safe, orderly, and properly regulated urban environment within the metropolis.
