Deputy Education Minister Charges Mothers To Lead Efforts In Keeping Girls In School

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has called on mothers to play a leading role in keeping girls in school, supporting their educational aspirations and preparing them for leadership.

According to him, empowering mothers is critical to closing Ghana’s gender gap in education and promoting equality.

Dr Apaak made the call while speaking as a guest speaker at the 2026 MomCo Conference in Accra.

He noted that mothers have significant influence on the educational outcomes, values and aspirations of their children, particularly their daughters.

He stressed that an empowered mother can help her daughter stay in school, complete her education and aspire to leadership, while also raising sons who respect women.

Dr Apaak reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s commitment to gender-responsive education and described mothers and MomCo as important partners in advancing gender equality and improving educational outcomes.

He said empowering mothers and promoting positive values at home are essential to closing the gender gap in education and building a more equitable society.
