Asantehene Facilitates MoU Between KNUST, Virginia State University

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has facilitated a new academic partnership between the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana and Virginia State University in the United States, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed on August 27, 2026, by Virginia State University President, Dr. Makola M. Abdullah, and KNUST Board Chairman, Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, to deepen academic collaboration.

The agreement, between KNUST in Kumasi, Ghana, and Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia, sets forth the intent and framework for collaboration in support of mutually beneficial goals and areas of interest.

According to the preamble, the document is not intended to imply or require legally binding commitments but is in support of the envisioned goals and activities outlined.

The MoU recognized KNUST, established on January 22, 1951, as a world-class academic centre of excellence spearheading West Africa’s pursuit of technological advancement, currently organized on a collegiate system with six colleges.

The partnership marks a new chapter of educational, cultural and scholarly cooperation between Ghana and the United States.
