Gov’t Reaffirms Commitment to Judicial Staff Welfare and Technology
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of judicial staff and promoting the adoption of technology as key pillars for effective and quality justice delivery in Ghana.
The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, made the commitment when he delivered the keynote address at the official opening of the 2nd Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) in Tamale.
The conference, held under the theme, “Championing Staff Welfare and Technology; Anchors of Quality Justice,” brought together members of JUSAG and key stakeholders in the justice sector. The event was attended by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Dr Julius Debrah, the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and the Regent of Dagbon, among other dignitaries.
Dr Pelpuo stressed that effective justice delivery depended not only on judges and magistrates but also on the administrative, professional and technical staff whose work supports the day-to-day operations of the Judicial Service.
He said workers should not be viewed merely as instruments of production, but as people with families and responsibilities who deserved safe, dignified and decent working conditions.
According to him, genuine staff welfare must extend beyond salaries and allowances to include access to appropriate working tools, continuous professional development, career progression and job security.
Dr Pelpuo also urged judicial staff, particularly younger workers, to embrace continuous learning as digitalisation, automation and artificial intelligence increasingly transform the world of work.
He encouraged workers to regard technology not as a threat to employment but as an opportunity to improve productivity, acquire new skills and create new avenues for professional growth.
Dr Pelpuo therefore encouraged continued collaboration between government, employers and organised labour to strengthen industrial relations and ensure that public institutions remained capable of delivering quality services to Ghanaians.
He commended the leadership of JUSAG, led by its National President, Mr Samuel Afotey Otu, for organising the conference and providing a platform for discussions on the future of judicial administration and staff welfare.
