Two Fishermen Fined GH¢192,000 For Fishing Without Licence
The Tema Circuit Court has convicted two fishermen for fishing without valid licences.
Their conviction follows an enforcement operation conducted by the Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU) on June 1, 2026, which led to their arrest.
The convicts were identified as Philip Allotey and Festus Mensah.
The two were charged with fishing without a valid licence, an offence contrary to Section 56 of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025 (Act 1146).
According to the Ministry of Fisheries, the court fined each of them GH¢96,000, bringing the total fines to GH¢192,000.
The Fisheries Enforcement Unit is mandated to enforce provisions of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025, including measures aimed at promoting responsible and sustainable fishing practices and curbing illegal fishing activities in Ghana.
