Seek Help Early, Recovery Is Possible – NACOC Boss To Youth Battling Drug Abuse

The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Maj. Gen. Maxwell Obuba Mantey, has encouraged young people struggling with substance abuse, as well as their parents and families, to seek professional help early.

He stressed that recovery is possible.

Addressing young people at the National Youth Forum on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Director-General urged the youth to reject peer pressure and avoid experimenting with drugs.

“Try any drug? No. Drugs only destroy your future,” he cautioned.

He called on young people to rally behind NACOC and other stakeholders in the collective effort to address Ghana’s drug problem, emphasising that protecting the future of the youth requires their active participation.

“If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, seek help early. Recovery is possible. Your future is worth protecting,” Maj. Gen. Mantey added.
