Gov’t To Retool Fire Service With 100 New Tenders – Ashanti Regional Minister

Government is set to retool the Ghana National Fire Service with 100 new fire tenders to address challenges posed by ageing equipment, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed.
Dr Amoakohene announced this when he, together with members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), engaged officers, men and women of the Ghana National Fire Service, Ashanti Regional Command, and witnessed their fire drills.
“We recognise the challenges posed by ageing equipment and appreciate Government’s commitment to retooling the Ghana National Fire Service with 100 new fire tenders. While we await this intervention, we must continue to maintain and maximise the equipment currently available to us,” he said.
The engagement, according to the Minister, was to appreciate the courage, sacrifice and commitment of personnel to protecting lives and property across the Ashanti Region and Ghana.
Dr Amoakohene said the demonstration gave him a personal lesson, as he used a fire extinguisher for the first time.
“The chilling sensation in my hands as I discharged it, and the fulfilment of seeing the fire put out, was priceless. It reinforced an important question: how many homes have fire extinguishers, and how many people actually know how to use them?” he wrote in a Facebook post.
He commended the Regional Commander, DCFO I Peter Tetteh, for innovations including the Market Fire Quiz, collaboration with the National Security Bureau on a call centre and real-time CCTV monitoring, as well as weekly fire incident updates and trend analysis.
He said the Regional Administration is committed to supporting the Fire Service to intensify public education while strengthening enforcement of fire safety standards.
