Manhyia Palace Declared No-Fly Zone for Drones, UAVs

The Manhyia Palace, seat of the Asantehene, has with immediate effect been designated a strict no-fly zone for all drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

In a public notice issued by the Palace, authorities stated that the Manhyia Palace and its surrounding areas are now off-limits to all aerial operations without prior, explicit authorization from the Palace or the relevant state authorities.

“Effective immediately, the Manhyia Palace and its surrounding areas are designated as a strict no-fly zone for all drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. No aerial operations will be permitted without prior, explicit authorization from the Palace or the relevant authorities,” the notice read.

The directive also warned that any violation will attract sanctions.

“Any unauthorized flights will result in the confiscation of equipment and may lead to legal action.”

The Palace did not state a specific reason for the restriction, but the move is consistent with global security practices around the residences of heads of state and traditional leaders, especially with the increasing use of drones for photography, surveillance, and commercial purposes.

The notice, bearing the official crest of the Asante Kingdom, is expected to guide media houses, content creators, event organizers, and drone operators who frequent the Palace area for coverage of chieftaincy events and tourism activities.

Stakeholders have been advised to seek clearance well in advance if they intend to carry out any aerial filming or drone operations within the restricted airspace.
