Ex-Scholarship Registrar Denies Scholarship Corruption Allegations by Ghana’s UK Mission
Lawyers for Dr Kingsley Agyemang, former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, have denied allegations of wrongdoing against their client and criticised public comments made by Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, H.E. Sabah Zita Benson.
In a press release issued on Wednesday by Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, the legal team said the High Commissioner’s recent public commentary was aimed at “renewing public ridicule against our client” regarding the award of scholarships during the previous administration.
The lawyers stated that Dr Agyemang “executed his work as former Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat with utmost diligence and therefore denies any wrongdoing.”
They noted that investigations into the corruption allegations have already been initiated by state security and investigative agencies. The release described the High Commissioner’s decision to address the matter in the media rather than allow the appropriate bodies to complete their work as “regrettable and unwarranted.”
“This is not the first time the High Commissioner is making such wild allegations notwithstanding the pendency of investigations by state security and investigative agencies,” the statement said.
According to the lawyers, Dr Agyemang has availed himself to investigators and has fully cooperated “with a view to ensuring that the allegations are thoroughly investigated, his name is completely cleared, and the matter is brought to a definitive conclusion.”
The release further described Dr Agyemang as a “law-abiding citizen who remains focused on faithfully discharging the mandate entrusted to him by the good people of Abuakwa South” and said he remains committed to the rule of law and due process.
