A/R: 19-Year-Old Robber Jailed 15 Years for Attack at Asabi
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the conviction and sentencing of a 19-year-old man, Ahmed Mustapha, to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery and causing harm.
In a press release issued on August 12, 2026, the police said the incident occurred on July 21, 2026, when a 25-year-old man was attacked and robbed of his mobile phone near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi in Asokore Mampong.
According to the release, the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team responded to the report and pursued the suspect, who attempted to escape and hide in an uncompleted building.
He was arrested at the scene with a mobile phone belonging to the victim, and a cutlass suspected to have been used in the attack was retrieved from him.
The victim sustained cutlass wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand. He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital for medical treatment, regained consciousness and was reported to be in stable condition.
On July 27, 2026, Ahmed Mustapha was arraigned before Asokwa Circuit Court Two, presided over by Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah, on charges of Robbery and Causing Harm. He pleaded guilty to both counts and was remanded into police custody to reappear for sentencing.
On August 10, 2026, the court convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to fifteen (15) years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The convict has since been conveyed to Kumasi Central Prisons to commence his sentence.
