22-Year-Old Man Jailed for 10 Years for Robbery in Kumasi

The Ashanti Central District Police Command has secured the conviction and sentencing of a 22-year-old man, Christian Owusu, to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.

According to a press release from the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, the sentence was handed down on August 14, 2026, by the Atasemanso Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Mr Kwaku Baah Frimpong.

The court heard that on July 21, 2026, at about 12:21 p.m., the victim was heading toward Konkromase Township when she was threatened and robbed of her handbag containing personal effects and cash.

The incident was formally reported to police later that day at about 5:00 p.m.

Following investigations, Owusu was arrested on August 4, 2026, and arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 7, 2026.

He was charged with robbery and pleaded guilty to the charge. Consequently, he was convicted on his own plea.

Before sentencing, Owusu pleaded with the court for forgiveness. The court considered his plea but imposed a minimum term of ten (10) years’ imprisonment with hard labour (IHL).

After sentencing, the convict was handed over to the authorities of the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving his term.
