Aduaben Krontihene Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi Destooled

The Adonten Division of the Kumasi Traditional Council has destooled Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi, Krontihene of Aduaben in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, on the orders of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.

The destoolment was carried out during a divisional meeting held in Kumasi on Thursday, August 13, 2026, presided over by the head of the Adonten Division, Nana Adu Mensah Asare.

In accordance with tradition, his traditional sandals, known locally as kyawkyaw, were removed to signify his loss of authority.

He was also cautioned against setting foot in Aduaben, with the council warning that failure to comply would attract serious consequences.

Nana Adu Mensah Asare, who is also the Amakomhene, said all the necessary traditional rites associated with the destoolment had been performed in accordance with the directive of the Asantehene.

He stated that the Asantehene had clarified that Adontenhene Nana Adu Gyamfi lacked traditional jurisdiction over Aduaben, thereby invalidating the enstoolment of Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi as Krontihene.

Liaison Appointment
Meanwhile, Nana Opoku Gyawu, the Adontenhene’s chief linguist, was appointed as a liaison chief between the Adonten Division and Aduaben.

It was emphasised that the appointee had no authority to interfere in the internal affairs of the community.

Background
Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi was originally enstooled by the Adontenhene, Nana Adu Gyamfi, to oversee the day-to-day affairs of Aduaben until a new queen was enstooled.

Nana Ama Kyifa II was enstooled as the Queen of Aduaben on August 14, 2023.

Despite the presence of a queen at the helm of affairs, the Krontihene undermined her leadership, continuing to assert himself as the primary caretaker of the area.

He was also accused of selling parcels of land and issuing forged allocation documents to prospective land buyers.

According to the Amakomhene, “attempts by the new queen and the Adonten Division to stop the alleged activities were unsuccessful, prompting the matter to be taken before the Kumasi Traditional Council.”

At a meeting of the Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, August 6, 2026, the Asantehene directed Nana Adu Mensah Asare to ensure the removal of Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi.
