U/WR: Police Arrest Six Suspected Members of Armed Robbery Syndicate
The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested six persons suspected to be members of an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality following months of intelligence-led coordinated operations.
In a press release issued on August 11, 2026, and signed by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, the Command said the crackdown was in response to an emerging trend of armed robbery incidents in which victims were attacked, wounded with machetes and forced to disclose their Mobile Money PINs.
The suspects then allegedly used the PINs to transfer money from the victims’ accounts to their own MoMo accounts.
The six suspects arrested are Amadu Moro, 35 years, Adama Yussif, 40 years, Iddrissu Adama, 35 years, Korika Issaka, 20 years, and Zakaria Brigi, 21 years.
One other suspect, Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52 years, was arrested but later died at the Upper West Regional Hospital upon arrival after sustaining injuries during the operation.
His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman were key members of the gang and have been linked to robbery incidents at Kpenateng Junction on August 1, 2026, Kulkpara-Dapoha on June 19, 2026, Kpenateng Community on June 15, 2026, an incident on May 23, 2026, and Piisi-Dapoha on March 27, 2026.
Investigations have so far established that approximately GH₵22,070 in cash was robbed from victims, while an additional GH₵3,274 was siphoned through Mobile Money accounts.
The Police have also retrieved seven mobile phones from the suspects, which are being subjected to further examination as part of ongoing investigations.
The Command said two other suspects connected to the syndicate are currently at large and efforts are being intensified to locate and arrest them.
They have been identified as Haruna, 30 years, who serves as the armourer of the gang, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24 years, son of the deceased suspect.
DCOP Yiribaare urged residents, particularly those in communities affected by recent robbery incidents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the Police.
He further appealed to the public to cooperate with investigators by providing credible information that could assist in locating the two wanted suspects and preventing further criminal activities.
